Heather blushed a bit as her mother commented on their love and smiled happily. It was true that she loved him. Not a lot of people would want to live with someone with her OCD. Yet, she had found out along the way that she had found people she could count on like Edwin, who had surprisingly been there for her in the worse moment of her life. She didn’t know what she would do without him to keep an eye on Annie and making sure she didn’t go insane. She was even surprised that he was willing to keep an eye on her daughter while he disliked being around people in general.
She nodded when she talked about last year. “It has, but I had friends whom I could trust and helped me through this.” She added with a bigger smile. In the end, it turned out well even if they needed time to learn to be close to each other again. She had fainted the moment she saw that Thomas wasn’t dead, because she had been convinced he was and she went through so much of emotions during that year but she discovered there were people she could count on and it made her happy in the end. Besides, nothing would make her regret having Annie.
She didn’t hide that it had been difficult but it was there where she found out who she could truly rely on when she needed it the most.

Thomas knew Heather expected it. He knew his mother was the one who would be the happiest to hear that her son wanted to marry. Yet it was to his father that he admitted it first. There, on the ship, he told him how much Heather meant to him, what that last year had been for him and how thinking of her helped him get over his fears. He said how he had no idea he had a child, how he wouldn't have stayed hidden had he known. He told the man what he wanted to do during this trip, how it was the main reason why he wanted her to meet his family and his family to meet her. He was proud of his son and happy for him. Thomas nearly cried at this. There had been a moment when he was certain he'd never see his parents again, or Heather and now he was on a ship with his father. This was a little overwhelming. Luckily, Annie helped defuse this excess of emotion by being an adorable little kid who wanted some attention from the adults.
"Has there been a time when you doubted he would ever come back?" His mother asked Heather. She didn't think much about her friends, who they may be and all. She was the mother of two children, she knew how much work it was, how hard if not say impossible to take care of babies all by yourself with no support. "And your family I suppose? Had I known, I would have helped, even if it meant leaving here to London. I understad why you didn't call out for us, we didn't know each other, but I want you to know you can count on us," she said. She would have placed a hand on Heather but she was cleaning the dishes. She nearly added 'no matter what happens' but she didn't want to think about that.

Heather had a hard time too, on her own. Raising a child alone when she had OCD was an exploit altogether. She was lucky that people helped her during that period. Her parents had been there for her as well and it was greatly welcomed. She didn’t know how she would’ve made it alive and not depressed otherwise! She admitted that she had been very stressed and depressed a little too but she had to stay strong, for Annie’s sake. Her baby was what had kept her strong the whole time she was struggling.
She thought about Thomas’ mother question and nodded, being serious in her talk. “I thought he was dead. You can imagine the surprise I had when he came back.” She added on a lighter mood. “I thought I was crazy and seeing a ghost.” It had been overwhelming and she had fainted but she was happy they were a family now and they were a family. It was important to her. To have a normal life after the past year and they had been able to both adjust and were now visiting his family.
She smiled at his mother and, touched by her words. “This means a lot to me, I honestly didn’t think about it. I really was on the edge.” She admitted. She rested a hand on hers to show her that she was touched by it. “I will accept your help. Thank you for your support.” She replied. It meant a lot to her.

The salty air lifted up Thomas' spirit. It had been a while. Well, maybe not that long, for he went close to the sea in some isolated areas as far away as towns as possible while he was in hiding, mostly due to the fact that he couldn't get Wolfsbane during that time. It was odd that a guy who felt so good by water chose London to live in and now a town closer to the coast. Originally though, he chose Diagon Alley, as being with wizards seemed safer than muggles when you were a werewolf. They would know better how to control you for sure. Now he was with Heather and he was happy with it.
His mother was heartbroken for a moment, remembering this time when no one had news of her son and they all feared the worse. Heather knew what had been going on with their world, Thomas' parents, being muggles, had been left in the dark. When Thomas finally reached out, the relief had been mixed with even more worries hearing what had been going on. Pain was shown through her eyes, even as she smiled at the way Heather presented their first encounter when he returned. "I can imagine. I almsot died of relief when we finally received a letter from him." She looked away. Thinking back at those times was very painful, even if the outcome was a happy one for everyone involved. "We had no idea who to ask questions to or how to reach him. All we could do was sit here and wonder what happened. I can imagine how you felt yourself, with child and all," she said as she turned back towards Heather. Being a muggle could be really horrible at times. She didn't blame Heather for not reaching out to them. Had she known their son was alright, keeping them in the dark would have been cruel and her opinion of the girl would be very different, but she clearly had been as worried as they were. She understood then why she didn't come, never having met or known or each other before, even if she would have loved to meet her granddaughter sooner.
She forced herself to smile to chase this painful moment away. "And now look at us. I have a granddaughter!" she said with a light chuckle. She shook herself up, not wanting to cry in front of her. She cleared her throat in an attempt to also clear her mind. "I hope you're not too impatient, they are likely gone for a few hours. Edward will not stay as long as usual with the baby around but they will still be gone a while."

Heather knew that she had gone through a lot when Thomas was gone the past year, but this was the past, precisely and she tended to look forward instead. She didn’t deny that it had been hard for her to deal with a baby on her own while she had a high ranked job and one that required a lot of her time. It was also even harder when you considered the fact that she had OCD too. Luckily, she had people who could support her and never thought she could have asked for Thomas’ parents. She didn’t know them back then and even if they were willing to help, she would rather not interfere with their life. Her mother seemed to understand the situation and Heather was relieved to know that.
She couldn’t blame his mother’s reaction either. She remembered that she had fainted, certain that she was seeing a ghost but it really had been Thomas. Thomas, who was now in peace with his werewolf nature and also Annie’s father who was back for them. “I have to admit that it was pretty much the same for me too.” She admitted when she talked of her son. She still wanted to reassure her though and now that they were there, as a family it made much more sense to her to be with them. They were truly nice people and she hoped they would accept her as part of their family. A small thought went to her parents who would probably get along with Thomas’ parents too.
She noticed that his mother was sad and rested her hand on top of hers. “Don’t worry, it’s all over now, I know it might take time to realize it but I promise we’ll come as often as we can and you are welcomed to our home as well.” She said and then smiled as she talked of Thomas. “I suspected it.” She admitted.

Thomas' parents learned as they came to visit that Heather was a little 'special', that she had certain habits. Still, they had no idea how it was exactly or how difficult it must have been to have a child all alone in her state. They knew she had a good position at the hospital so they did not worry about the financial aspect. She seemed nice and she loved her daughter, this was another good thing. What they could easily understand however was the pain of losing Thomas. They too feared they had lost him, being without any news of him. They didn't even know how lucky they were that the death eaters didn't choose to kill them, just for the fun of it and to show some idiotic wizard not to stand agaisnt them. She lived the war while they heard of it only after it was done. How terrible it must have been for her!
Thomas was talking of this with his father as they were sailing. He talked more in details of what happened, where he had been during that time, how he dealt with his lycanthropy... the kind of stuff he didn't want to tell his mother for fear of worrying her too much. Weird mentality, for it would worry his father to tell all of that, but he had to talk to someone. He said some to Heather but not all. He told some more to his father. Who could he talk to after all? He lost Dumbledore and Remus in the war and they were the ones he would have opened to the most in the past. At least not everything was dark. He felt more in sync with the werewolf in him. Without loving this side of him or trying to let it out at any time, he no longer feared it as much.
"He really scared us all," Thomas' mother said in a sigh. She sat down at the table as she said that, looking blankly in front of her. After a moment, she shrugged and looked back at Heather. "But I'm sure it was not easy for him either. He never would have put us through that if he didn't think it was the best for us." She wanted to believe she raised her son well and that he didn't change too much since he left the family home. She turned her head, deep in her thought. "There is a silver lining. His relationship with his sister has been complicated for a while. Ever since Gwen got the confirmation she was no witch, you could say. But she always loved her brother and this, this reminded her of that. I hope their relationship will go better from now on." She had no idea how much Thomas told her of his family and even if she was more than happy to welcome Heather in her family, she did not intend to tell her every little secret they had. She knew it all went from the fact that her brother was different, then she got scared by his new werewolf nature, as they all were, and resented the fact he had to be so far away from them all. But, in the end, she knew Gwen only wanted her brother back. And he had.
She smiled again. "Thomas always loved the sea. If he didn't feel the need to live amongst the wizards because of his condition, he would have chosen a city by the sea. On that, he's very much like his father," she shared. Except that she didn't see Thomas on a ship to get some fish. But there had been a time when she imagined him having a little restaurant in town. The fact he became a werewolf really changed everything.

Heather didn’t know how much Thomas had said to his parents but she knew that he warned them about her…condition. She was touched that he wanted them to accept her the way she was and not for the OCD she had to deal with. She knew that it was something that couldn’t exactly be cured but she still managed to make it through with her high ranked job and raising a child. It ought to mean that she wasn’t a bad parent or a bad person. It didn’t restrain her too much in those terms. She didn’t bring it up and she wouldn’t until he did though. She was glad to see that his mother seemed to appreciate her company. She just wished not to force herself on her too much either. She wanted his family to accept her and in due time, she would tell them, with Thomas’ presence. It’s not like she was freaking out over the mess his parents’ house was. She was relatively able to contain herself from doing so.
She agreed with his mother on that part; he scared her a lot too. She had worried for him and wanted to make sure nothing would tear them apart anymore. She was happy that he was able to be there for Annie too. She loved her father very much after all! Things of the past couldn’t be changed though so hopefully they would have a great future together. “It’s great, I don’t have a sibling so I can’t tell what it is to have one but she ought to have worried over him. Family is still family.” She said. She too had a rocky past when it came to learning she had OCD and learned how to deal with it in her every day life.
“The sea has its way to appease people.” She admitted. “I like painting it too.” She said with a bigger smile, considering to do one for his parents for next time they’d see each other. Surely, they’d like the gesture, right?

Thomas hoped things were going well at the house. While he fully enjoyed his time sailing and talking to his father, he couldn't help wonder how the ladies were doing. He was certain his parents would welcome Heather in the family, he didn't worry about it, but he didn't know how nervous Heather would be right now. Her OCD could be kept in better control at certain times and he hoped it was the case now. He bet his mother would help her if there was anything, but he didn't want it to cause any trouble. He still believed he was right not to tell his parents about it though. He didn't want it to define her. She was the woman he loved and the mother of his child before anything else. He had no idea he was the subject of their conversation.
Emily smiled at Heather as she admitted being an only child. "I think it was mostly the resentment of not being a witch after spending years hearing stories from her brother and wanting to see for herself. As adults, it's easier to accept that, even if letting our son go so far away was hard, but she was just a child. And then Thomas got bitten and this scared us all. They had not talked much since he left the house. I'm sure their relationship would have been improved a long time ago otherwise, but I'm glad it's the case now." Thomas being a wizard sure brought a lot on the family's shoulders. She knew her daughter had worried as much as they did when they suddenly stopped hearing any news of him and caught glimpses of rumours from his world. It was nothing compared to the truth though, and she was just so glad her son came back in one piece. She never thought it could be so dangerous.
Emily showed some interest when Heather mentioned painting. Or maybe it was the fact she appreciated the sea too. "I suppose it would be too far for your work though, right?" It was not like she knew every aspect of being a wizard but she knew Thomas left to be closer to his community. She figured it was still the reason why he was not choosing to get closer from home. Wales, and the sea, was in his blood after all.

Heather was glad for it too, that Thomas’ relationship with his sister was getting better. She didn’t know what it was to have a sibling and to her, having a sibling and not being able to talk to them ought to be rough. She did feel lonely at times when she was younger but with her OCD as she grew, she supposed that she forgot about those times and worried more about the germs and trying to deal with it. She didn’t share that aspect to his mother though, preferring to get to know the woman before. She knew that she could trust her, but she didn’t want them to think that she was a freak. Her being a wizard was probably enough for them to deal with even if they didn’t seem too shocked by it.
The distance wouldn’t be a problem knowing all the magical transportations they could use but for now, it was what she wanted and she nodded at his mother. “Indeed.” She said, she wondered about if they knew that she had an important position and needed to be there in case of emergency. “I need to be available as much as I can for my job but I know I’m not the only one so I can priories Annie’s well-being first.” Besides, they had Edwin too and he could do the healing part if they needed it. They all knew that she had a higher job because she had trouble dealing with blood, which was ironic knowing she was working in a hospital.

It was funny how woman talked endlessly while the two men just seemed to know how they were feeling with just one look. Thomas didn't have to talk too much to his father. The man asked him if he intended to do the right thing. Thomas understood what he meant. He explained it was more than the right thing, it was what he always wished to do. His parents seemed to like Heather and he was glad of this. Life took a much smoother turn for him since the war, everything was falling into place nicely. Oh, sure, he lost his cafe but he was not too worried. He was still a good enough cook, and he could still decide to open a new one someday. For now, his priority was his family and it was such a relief to see everyone getting along. It felt so good to be back. And the sea... he did move towards the smaller islands during his escape, in hope to avoid people as much as possible, but it was not the same thing. The sea then represented the space he had to put around those he loved. Now, it was the peace that it used to be to him.
He had no idea how much his mother wished for him to get closer to them. She was his mother, it made sense she wanted to see him more. It was even more the case knowing what he had been through lately. Her motherly insincts wanted to protect her boy. "Ah yes, the hospital. Quite a way for the two of you to meet." She had a little smile. She was not judging her or implying she slept with a patient. "I'm glad he found someone who understood and accepted him for who he was. he had been very affected by it, when he returned from his trip wounded. It was a luk that Dumbledore agreed to help us. I always worried for him because of that, he kept pushing people away. He needs people around him too." She would have to accept the fact they wouldn't move north to Wales anytime soon. As long as they didn't let the distance separate them and kept in touch.
She let out a heavy sigh before smiling, hitting the table with enthusiasm. "I know them, they are not about to be back soon. How about we go in town? I could find something special for dinner too," she suggested.

While Heather wasn’t one who was born close to the sea, she enjoyed its sight and she was looking forward the beautiful serene that would inspire her for new paintings. She was enjoying doing so and even though his home wasn’t that close to the ocean, she was willing to have a walk nearby for inspiration. She enjoyed painting and it was a great way for her to relax more, considering the fact that she had OCD, she was pretty meticulous with the details and her paintings tended to be very realistic. She tried abstract once but it was so messy to her that she wasn’t sure she would want to go that route again. She preferred old school painting that represented nature or people she knew.
Heather nodded at his mother, she knew very well about werewolves, after all, she was the head of that precise department for a reason. “I know a lot what they are going through, we’re treating the werewolves and while he was going in my department, we mostly met outside of my job.” She explained to her mother even if she didn’t ask for such an explanation. “I know how hard it could be for werewolves, they’re not all accepted into the society. Dumbledore was a great man.”
She smiled at the idea of going down town. “It would be great! I’ve wanted to visit some more and being with a local is the best way to do so.” She agreed.

It was weird that a man like Thomas, who loved the calm of the sea so much, chose to live in the middle of a busy city. It was not like the wizards didn’t have means to reach St. Mungos, wherever they lived in England. But Thomas thought it was safer for him to be around wizards. Had his life not been in so much danger, he would have stayed there and still believed it during the war, but he was forced to run and hide if he wanted to live. Perhaps it was why he felt the need to return here. The war may be over but everyone’s life has been changed. So many things happened, so many thing and people lost, he needed a break. The sea would calm him. Being with his parents too. It had been so long, as he feared going back in the past but his time in hiding made him realise how much he needed all of these people in his life. Especially since he already lost a lot of people close to him, like Lupin who had been like a mentor to him and got him to accept his nature more. He looked up at the sky, wondering if he was able to look down on them and if he was happy for his friend.
His mother seemed a bit surprised by the term treating. Was there a way to cure him of this? No, it was impossible. But there was apparently a way to ‘treat’ him. She hoped it was nothing wrong. No, it couldn’t be, otherwise Thomas wouldn’t be with her. At the same time, he used to be so ashamed of this. But he grew so much. She saw it in his eyes when he came yesterday and they finally reunited after so long. He had seen and experienced much and had grown from it. While she never wished for him to go through all of this, she was glad to see him in a happier state. “Yes he was,” she said, referring to Dumbledore, having heard from them just last night of his passing. So many things to catch up on her son’s life, it was unbelievable. “I am glad he found you, and that you make him happy,” she added as she looked at Heather.
A smile at her words. “Our town is rather quaint but I will gladly give you a tour,” she offered as she prepared to leave the house with Heather.

Heather had enjoyed being around Thomas’ family, they were close and she had a feeling that they would get along with her parents. She was also relieved that they seemed to accept her for who she was even if she hadn’t told them yet that she had OCD. Hopefully it wouldn’t change their opinion and accepted her as Thomas’ lover. They had worked hard to make it work again and their life had slowly gone back to normal. Letting Annie knowing about her grandparents was wonderful too, who wouldn’t fall for her charms? Her precious little girl could make anyone’s heart melt; proof was that Edwin had helped her a lot by babysitting Annie!
She gave a kind smile to his mother. “I know it’s a bit complicated to understand how we work, as wizards, but don’t worry, in our department we take care of people who have to deal with lycanthropy.” She said to her mother. “They are safer going to St-Mungos instead of being in the wild, but I understand him needing to leave the place when we were at war. Now that it’s over, we’re hoping that things will work for the best and that society will accept them.” She was concerned about the werewolves there, because not all of them were purely evil and she wanted to make sure that the good ones could live amongst the wizards without being rejected or looked down on the level of a beast but it would take time. She just wished that she didn’t give any unwanted information to her mother and ended up being reassuring. She smiled at his mother. “Thank you.” She responded kindly, touched that her mother trusted her.
Her smile only grew wider when she agreed to give her a tour. “Wonderful, I might find inspiration and paint one especially for you.” She said. Painting had always been a hobby that calmed her.

Thomas was certain that his parents were just too happy to find out their son was alive after all and happy to care about Heather’s particular quirks. They were not the ones who had to live with her anyway, they will only have to deal with it on occasions. He hoped they’ll be able to see at least once a year, ideally more. He isolated himself from his family and that long before the war, because he could not accept his nature but the last events changed a lot of things. It thought him to control himself better. He still could not prevent himself from turning or stop his werewolf form from attacking people but he learned to live with this side of him. He also valued his loved ones even more. Losing both Dumbledore and Lupin, whom he considered to be his mentors, was a hard blow and all the more a reason to reunite with his family to not lose them as well.
There was Annie too. Thomas never thought he could care so much for another person. It was not like he believed himself incapable of loving a person but losing his daughter would be the greatest blow for him. He talked of this with his father, who could understand, having two children of his own. He also admitted how he wanted to marry Heather. He knew his parents would be glad. Without being the most traditional of people, it would seem more appropriate to them to see their son marry his daughter’s mother.
“I’m glad, but I know it isn’t a condition that is very accepted, even amongst you. Thomas was not the only one who had been worrying about this over the years,” she confessed. At least Heather was aware of his condition and accepted it. “And Annie is not, it’s a relief. Thomas never would have forgiven himself if she had been born like him.” She had dealt with her son after he got bitten and had to deal with his new status as a werewolf, she was certain of what she was saying. She knew her son, despite the time they had been apart, talking only through occasional letters.
She nodded about the war. She could hardly believe everything her son had been telling them when he came yesterday. She had been taken by an urge to hug him and a sense of guilt for not having been there to shelter him during that time, even if she would have likely been killed as he said. Still, to know he had to isolate himself from everyone he knew to protect them. She never thought her son would be involved in a war and even if, after explaining his work it made a bit more sense, it was still unbelievable to her that someone would want to hunt him down. In a way, she was glad to have been told only after the facts. She would have died of worry otherwise.
She looked at Heather. At least he picked a decent woman to fall in love with. She was there for him and she was thankful for this. She wondered if she was ready to share her life with her boy. Probably, since she had a child with him, but she suspected Annie had not been planned. Didn’t make her less loved but that could be the reason why they were not married yet. She couldn’t help but wish her son to be properly settled. “You paint?” she asked as it had not been a topic that came about so far.
Post by HEATHER RUSSEL on Mar 14, 2019 18:01:34 GMT -5
Heather was happy to be able to spend time with Thomas’ family even if at first she was a bit awkward. She couldn’t help it; after all, she hadn’t known them before until then. She was relieved to know that they were kind. Besides, how could they not be? She didn’t think Thomas would have horrible family as he cared too much about others. It would also give Annie the occasion to have more than just one grandparent. Knowing that they would be there for her was good for her as she appreciated their kindness. Speaking with his mother was nice and she enjoyed it.
She nodded, admitting that being a werewolf was a bit troublesome in the wizarding world. “People don’t transmit it by genes but Thomas always worries.” She said, wanting to reassure his mother too. She, after all, was becoming a werewolf expect of some sort since she knew that you would become one from a bite or a scratch. They were lucky that Thomas wasn’t part of the evil ones. “The best way to reassure him was to let him see for himself.” Of course, there would be rare cases where the kid became a werewolf too but it was rare.
She smiled, and nodded as they changed the topic of their conversation. “I do, I find it very therapeutic.” She said, as her smile brightened. It was true, it helped her a lot with her OCD but since Thomas didn’t mention it to her parents, she didn’t give hints of it too much, besides, she wanted to get to know his mother since they were going to spend more time together.
