Calla had been impressed by Muk's culture so far and was happy that Senna had agreed to come along with them. She still couldn't believe her luck to have such an understanding family! She smiled, enjoying the sight his home gave to her. His people were adorable as well, they were all impressed by her golden hair, which would often made her blush but she generally let them touch it to their heart's content.
She was glad that his home ressembled of a normal one even if there were a few things that changed compared to hers. The warmth of the temperature was great too and she thought that she would remember of their trip forever. She hoped that her sister was enjoying herself too. It was reassuring to have someone she knew and let along an adult; she was like her mother and she wouldn't do that trip without her! Things had gone well so far and she was supposed to meet up with Muk. She wanted to see where they could possibly build the greenhouses and have a better tour of his tribe and people.
She had gotten herself ready with the local clothes which she thought were very comfortable and was distracting herself with the interesting plants there were around the home as she waited for him to be ready to accompany her. She was certain that this ought to be a trip that she would remember for the rest of her life because, after all, not a lot of people travelled to Africa!

I DREAM OF GARDENS IN THE DESERT SAND
( I dream of love as time runs through my hand ) - - - - - - - - -
This had to be one of Muk's favorite trips home. Period. Not only did his family find Calla fascinating (and not just her hair) his clan was appreciative too of her curiosity and patience. The idea that this might really work out had him floating a bit off the ground and he hoped the rest of this time would go as well as it had so far! When he got up this morning and dressed, he felt more interested in the day then any time back home he could remember.
Coming back from his father's house, Muk slipped through the door and slipped off his outer robes hanging them on the peg next to his visitors' clothes. In deference to them, he had been wearing normal things underneath like shorts and a t-shirt so they would feel more comfortable about trying out the new clothes, but he normally wouldn't have worn anything but underwear. Walking back to the hall, he heard the bath water running as he passed and smiled; Calla's sister really liked that room it seemed!
First he knocked on their door but found out Calla wasn't there. "Ah, must be exploring..." Turning to the hall he went back towards the main part of the house and passed into the courtyard and spotted her standing amid the plants. He paused a second to admire her, her hair spilling out down the back of the robe. The flush to her cheeks reminded him he needed to make sure she was using the protective lotion most pale folks needed here in the desert and he turned to quickly get some with an idea in his mind! In moments he was back, s shallow bowl in his hands with lotion ready to be used.
"Hi Calla! How are you feeling this morning? Did you sleep okay?" Stepping next to her he slipped a finger in the stuff and very softly caressed her cheek with it as she responded, his fingers enjoying the excuse and showing how he would protect her. His eyes were very pleased at his own thinking and glad her sister was temporarily out of the way. "I don't want your father to think I'm not taking good care of you, you know."

Calla couldn’t deny the fact that she enjoyed getting to meet Muk’s family. It was so different to hers and yet had some similarities too. Of course, she wasn’t referring to the fact that his people looked like her family, but they were as tight as her family was and she appreciated that and it was partially why she didn’t feel as out of place as she would normally. Besides, having Muk by her side made it easier on her too and Senna was a great way to appease any worries that she might have while being here with them. They would often talk together, later in the evening and stating what they appreciated the most about their visit so far, even wrote letters to their father to make sure he knew that they were fine.
She couldn’t help but admire the vegetation that was surrounding her. They were exotic plants that wouldn’t normally grow outside London and only in greenhouses so it was exciting for her to get to see these in their natural environment. She focused on their details and appreciated their scent. She startled a little, surprised by Muk as he greeted her and smiled brightly. “Good morning Muk.” She said cheerfully and nodded answering to his question. “Very well thank you, it’s a very lovely place here.” She said as she looked around but quickly focused back on him as he made sure that she had body lotion on her face. It was true that she needed sunscreen considering how pale she was she would get a sunburn any time!
She couldn’t help but laughed softly at his words. “I know you won’t, if you want I can even write in my letters that you make sure I don’t get attacked by the sun.” She added jokingly, but also pleased to have a moment with him. She knew that having a big family meant that you didn’t have a lot of time for yourself too.

( I dream of love as time runs through my hand ) - - - - - - - - -
As he caressed her cheek he saw the happiness in her eyes and felt emboldened. He spread it across her cheek and around her ear just in case. It was surprising that such pale skin should suffer so from the touch of the sun. "Your skin is so delicate, Calla, have you ever been sunburned before?" With her cheek and ear done he moved across her forehead, his fingers light and careful to keep it out of her eyes. That would not do for her to feel discomfort because of his carelessness just because he was not familiar with her skin!
"I'm glad your sister enjoys my grandfather's Moroccan bath but she is going to become a prune if she stays in there every day, Calla," he chuckled showing his white teeth. The first time he had ever seen the effect was at Hogwarts as his people never used so much water, but westeners lived in a water-rich land and did all sorts of things with it his folk would have thought of as wasteful. Still, it kept her out of their hair more and he appreciated the extra time with her. "Do tell him! Just don't tell him I enjoy putting it on you myself!"
He suspected that would cause a bad reaction from her family. "So what do you think of the room? If I can figure out the illusion spell I hope to add a glass roof on this just like your greenhouses back home. Do you know if they have to have ventilation of some sort as well?" The Hogwarts ones had little windows which could be opened on the sides, but he thought they would need more here in this sun. "At night it can get very cold here so keeping the heat in some way I think would be good for the magical ones."
Post by CALLA DALTON on Mar 9, 2019 11:32:03 GMT -5
Calla was aware that she had to be careful around the sun and it was why she had everything she needed in her suitcase. She had hats, sunglasses, sun screen, light clothes…when you had a skin like hers, it was better to be safe than being sorry! She smiled as he continued applying the sunscreen on her cheeks and nodded at his question. “I have, mostly when I was younger but I’m good we got everything to prevent it and if I still get a sunburn I got creams to appease these.” She was thankful they could have a moment though, having a big family meant that you didn’t have alone time as much as you might want. She knew that much having a big family too, she bet that Muk would be at ease around her sisters…or not, if they dared asking him hundred of questions!
She laughed a bit as they talked of Senna. “She’s grown up I’m sure she won’t let that happen.” She trusted Senna as she had always been the rational one and was like a mother to them. She was truly happy that she had agreed to come with them and bet that it would inspire her to paint beautiful landscapes. She grinned and nodded, looking forward to the day and what she could write to her father. “Our secret is safe.” She promised to him.
“I love it.” She said as she talked of the rooms. “They might need ventilation if it becomes too warm, it’s a good idea.” Muk was always ingenious and she admired him for that as well as many other qualities she thought he had. “That’s true, I’ll have to read about that to give you ideas.” Being here helped her to figure out what they might need for his greenhouses and she was more than happy to help him with that!

I DREAM OF GARDENS IN THE DESERT SAND
( I dream of love as time runs through my hand ) - - - - - - - - -
Muk finished then and motioned towards the couch so they could sit down, placing the bowl on a table. "Well I know my sisters approve of you" he said knowing she had only met one of his brothers since they now belonged to another family "and you've made my father smile several times already so I think we're good there." Many in school had found Muk's matrilineality tribal family system confusing, but to him it was easy to follow. But westerners often had that "if it doesn't fit this form on the paper it can't be real" mindset about many things. Calla was more open minded, one of the many things he loved about her!
A chuckle escaped him, mostly to soften the next few words. "I suspect if your father would relent, my family would marry me off to you tomorrow just to get the situation over with. Good job on your part indeed," he grinned to show he wasn't trying to force the issue. Westerners were uncomfortable with the thought of young marriage despite the fact many laws didn't prevent it in many places. It must be odd to find out your government recognized marriages as legal from other countries even at age eleven (which his people even thought was far too young) yet spoke against anything before seventeen. He leaned back on the couch relaxing as he added "I suspect it would be in name only till you were of age in England. How odd how different our backgrounds are even on marriage."
It was really. Boys were men by age fifteen in his tribe, heck even in his land marriages were common in Africa under the age of fifteen whether adult or not. He had recently learned that even in the United States any girl could be married off by age fourteen if already pregnant which said much about how they viewed laws about age! He shook his head at the thought, finding the whole situation with 'laws' bizarre sometimes. "Not to ever rush you, Calla, you know I would never do that. You know I am kidding you. I am very happy having you as my girlfriend, you are such a delight to be around!" The fact he was still unmarried in a special situation still made some of his family weirded out a bit, but he would manage.
A nod about her sister; he was sure she would be. "She must like the peacefulness of it. I remember my first time seeing a shower at Hogwarts how surprising it was! Your land has so much more water then we do here, it's mind boggling to me how it gets used." He had thought for the first few months the huge drainage lines from the roof of Hogwarts must be resupplying their water for the castle and was quite surprised to find out it just went into the black lake! Then she mentioned ventilation and he nodded, though an idea did occur to him. "Hmm. The guard tunnel outside is often cooler then most places, maybe I should think about something shuttered from the ceiling there into here directly." Or maybe from the big caves being built below? That might be hard to figure out connecting to.
"If only there was a way to pull the excess heat from the day and bank it for the night time to get a more even temperature range. Maybe there is a magic for it, but I have not run across it yet." A kiss on her cheek just to show that even while thinking about the greenhouse, he still had her as top on his mind.

Calla had hoped that she would make an impression on Muk’s family for many reasons. First because she wouldn’t get to see them often and second, whenever they would indeed meet up it would probably be for longer than a year. She might be going ahead of herself there by planning those sorts of things but she couldn’t help it. She was of course, pleased to know that his family seemed to appreciate her company. She would feel horrible if they didn’t! She would rather not think of this. Ever! “Oh phew, thank God!” She said truly relieved. She had joined him so they could sit by the couch, it was really comfortable here! She’d like to spend a few weeks with his family.
She blushed a bit and smiled at his words. She was aware that their families probably didn’t have the same mentality but she was already looking forward to some sort of family meeting that could happen so they could learn to get to know each other. It could be fun, besides, Senna seemed to enjoy herself so far out there! She looked at Muk and nodded, simply enjoying to spend time with him, like this. They didn’t get to do that often, not when they could be alone together! “That’s true, I don’t know how my father would take it though.” She admitted with a light laugh.
She felt her cheeks becoming redder at his compliment. She never thought that Muk would force himself on her; he wasn’t like that and she would have never been with him if it was the case! “I’m happy to be with you Muk and I know you wouldn’t do that.” She told him.
She nodded at him. “Yes, it’s always so lively in London we barely have the time to rest and it’s the same in our place but I guess that’s for having a big family.” She said. She tried to think of other solutions for the greenhouses. “We’ll have to look for wind spells, maybe there’s a few that exist…” She said and got distracted when he kissed her on the cheek.

( I dream of love as time runs through my hand ) - - - - - - - - -
Muk had the grace to look quite taken aback. "Y-you were worried?" She really cared! "You shouldn't have, Calla, you are wonderful! I had no worried you wouldn't charm them all, especially my sisters! You're always a delight to be around!" He caught up one of her hands giving it a squeeze as looked at her, his face a delight on it's own. There was little doubt in his mind he was going to marry her as soon as her family adjusted to the idea, but the western side was always going to be the hardest part he had known.
"Well we could always talk out a plan to bring him around, but you'd need to tell me more about him. Does he like anything that I might meet him part way on for instance, or hobbies interests that he might have talked about..." In a way it was a bit hard to think about how he would need to please a man he had never met first to get permission to marry that man's daughter, as if she was property or not her own person already in many ways. After all, in the desert life was often though of as short if one were not careful so marriage was a much earlier thing here. The western world had many variations on this, but most age groups were much higher.
Yet he knew the wizarding world still had teenagers die. All those lives gone without a line afterwards despite the fact the muggle world out-weighed the number of wizards by the millions. Every wizard or witch was a precious commodity. At her expression of enjoying being around him he leaned over and kissed her again! "Good! When your sister is done being a prune mother wants us to come over for lunch. After that I really ought to take you to see my brother Maysarah's kids and clan." His brother was not in the village at the moment being part of the caravans which would be gone another month at least. He saw the distraction in her eyes and tilted his head on one side.
Clearly she liked his kisses! "What should we do while we wait? How may I entertain you, love?"

Calla blushed when Muk seemed surprised that she worried she wouldn’t get along with his family. It really was the case though! She wanted to make sure that they would appreciate her and her family and was hoping that they’d like the rest of her sisters. They seemed to enjoy Senna’s company and Senna seemed to have fun too out there but it truly worried her even if she didn’t always show it. She was relieved only when she found out that they enjoyed her company a lot and beamed in front of her golden hair. She gave a squeeze to his hand back and nodded her head slowly. “I’m really reassured, they’re nice.” She said with a soft smile.
She thought about her father when Muk talked of him. “That’s true, I will have to tell you more about him. He works at the wizenmagot and likes reading a lot.” She said, it wasn’t bad to start with what came to her mind first. He was important to her and she hoped that he would appreciate Muk as much as she liked to be with him. She was aware that they had cultural differences but she wasn’t afraid to face them.
Her face lit up when he kissed her and talked to her of the upcoming plans of the day. “I’m truly excited to see them!” She enjoyed being around kids since she was used to be around a large family. It didn’t scare her to meet his whole clan during this trip. She kissed him back and smiled brightly. “I’d like to walk around for a bit, I’m still getting used to your house.” She admitted with a chuckle.

He shook his head at her. "I'm glad I told you then, but I had no worries about you. Anyone who met you would be charmed, I'm just amazingly glad you like me or there'd be about thirty guys taking your mind off me at school probably." He gave a weak smile, but she was a special woman. He was very lucky to have caught her eye, and probably half of that was just how different he was then the world she grew up in. Well, he found her world rather fascinating as well! "I'd love to introduce you to how our magic here works, but we won't be heading out into that part of the desert I would need to introduce you too."
Probably for the best. It was a sort of the secret of his people, but if she really was going to be with him she ought to understand some of it and how it worked. "Well I do like reading, though it's not so easy reading in a different language. And the closest thing we have to a group like that would be the Kel Gres, my clan, assisted by the Marabouts, the Holy men. I'm not sure he will consider that the same thing." He frowned thinking. His tribes writing would be hard enough for anyone to follow really. "Although as the tribe's wizard I will probably be called on for advice and decisions, but I am not part of the ruling nobles I guess anymore. It's an iffy point."
Then his eyes brightened. "Hmm. Then again, the fact I come from a Noble line and will have influence through a space like the Sahara which is like twenty times bigger then the UK might be a point you should bring up. Do you think that might help offset some of the difference?" Turning, he gave her his arm as he had been taught at Hogwarts and motioned. "You've seen the guest rooms and that two hallways remain left aside for future expansion, but I do not believe I showed you the rooms of my grandfather..." He led the way down to another door and opened it.
"Here," he held the door so she could step in first. The room was not huge, but was very comfortable and nicely Moroccan in style. The carved chairs and the swing were far nicer then the things in the village but his grandfather had come from a different place after all. "Grandfather Selwyn seemed to like a lot of things found across the Northern part of the continent and had a taste for fine stuff." Muk's saddle and village bag she had seen him traveling with lay on the table near the bed showing the room was now his as if the ruffled top cover on the bed was not enough. "Dad told me he just thought his father was feeling the climate. I know my first year at school I sure felt the difference."

Calla didn’t think she would have that much charm, but it was true that she was getting along with everyone. She never considered that other guys might want to try to flirt with her! She was only seeing Muk; he was full of mystery and she was starting to discover these here in Africa, a place which she enjoyed much because of its warmth and it impressed her to see such a different culture from hers. “Don’t say that, I can’t see myself with anyone else but you.” She said with a soft smile as she held his hand. She smiled as he talked of their magic. “I would love to, are we allowed to use it though, even if we’re not of age?” She didn’t know if the law concerned his magic too.
She listened to him as he spoke and smiled, knowing that there might be things she would not completely understand yet. “You’ll have to teach me your language then.” She added with determination. She couldn’t help it, she wanted to be part of them even if they already like her. She wanted to know their language and their culture. The best way to do it was to be part of it and to learn it while she was there with him!
She jumped on her feet and rested her hand on his arm as he was ready to show her more of the place she was staying in. “You haven’t, that’s a great idea!” She chimed happily. It was great to get to spend time with Muk like that, she never thought she would get to know him more than when they were at Hogwarts, but here she was, with him in Africa, it felt a bit surreal.
Her eyes widened a bit as she admired the beauty of the room. “It’s so beautiful.” She said, almost out of breath. “It does look cozy, I like that.” She added with a grin as she made sure to remember all the details of the furniture.

Of course he had to smile wider at that! A soft squeeze on her hand showed how much he appreciated that comment and he hoped he had that right; it was a western custom, but he rather liked it's subtlety. A glance around to make sure her sister had not shown up quietly. "I'm not supposed to say so you have to promise not to tell anyone, even your sister. But what is it your people say, I'm wrapped around your wrist?" He shyly grinned not knowing he had the phrase very wrong. "Basically, we're out of range of the British Ministry. They can not even pick up my magic here." The miracle of more then a few thousand miles.
A shrug. "It doesn't matter much. Desert magic is much quieter and more limited then your western stuff. It's far more about survival and detection then attacking and experimenting. And it's trickier then you would think; my people developed a way of teaching magic when there was no one alive who could do it. I'm not sure whether you could follow it or not, but would be curious to see. Still, the most of it is scattered across the desert and out of range for a quick trip." A tilt of his head at her said that he hadn't considered teaching her to read before.
"Huh. We call it writing sand. It's done on paper, but most often in the desert sand unless it's the Marabouts. They are the only ones who keep the tribes permanent records. Would you really like to learn?" That stated more then previously she was serious about something very long term. A very joyful look in his eyes said how he felt about that! As she looked around, he wondered if it had occurred to her yet that this would be her room as well at some point if things kept going so well between them. He tugged on her hand softly towards the swing bench. "Come here a minute," and held it while she sat before sitting beside her.
Motioning for her to lean against his chest, he slipped one hand around her waist protectively. With the bench slowly rocking back and forth he said "I have found a couple of magics in this house so far that my grandfather apparently left behind. I suspect there are more, but so far subtle enough I have not found them. I have shared this information with no one but you," he tried not to hold his breath and keep his arm relaxed "because I trust you. Entirely. And because I do my family accepts you where another outsider they might not as easily."

Calla loved it when she got to spend some time like this with Muk. She couldn’t say that she got to do that a lot when they were at school. Of course, they weren’t all over the place like some people could be. She appreciated the simple moments they had as they were getting to know each other along as their respective cultures. It was her turn now that she was in his village to learn as much as she could about him and his words had her blush as she knew what he was talking about. “They say wrapped around my fingers.” She told him, but was he? She looked at him curiously, into the eyes as if to search for the answer to her question.
She nodded at his explanations. It made sense, it sounded like something really ancient and she hoped that she would reach his expectations and even make him proud even if from what he told her, seemed to be already proud of her. She looked at him with determination as he asked her if she was serious about it. “Of course, it’s part of you.” She added before turning her head back at him and smiled. She enjoyed spending time on the swing too so she followed him and sat down, making herself comfortable and leaned against his chest, enjoying the simplicity of their moment.
She blushed at his words, feeling truly special as he shared with her personal information. “If you want, we can search together.” She said referring to the magics. Looks like they’d have a lot to do between checking on their greenhouses and looking for magics that his grandfather left. She hoped that her sister was having just as much fun as she had here!

The gaff, though he regretted looking silly, from her it didn't make him mind so much. "Ha, well I was quite a bit off then. But it still stands. I want you to be happy, Calla, and if there is anything you need or want, please let me know soonest. Pleasing you would be a great delight to me" he said earnestly, hoping she believed him! Among his people he was a full adult and meant what he said about her, but with the western world he was still thought of as a legal child. It was frustrating indeed, though he had learned to be patient with the Western way of thinking.
She looked in his eyes and he looked back not trying to hold anything back. "What? Ask me whatever you want to." He flushed slightly at her confidence in learning and spoke about the language. "Well, as children parents teach their children to write sand, most often in trips with caravans, but anytime there is a moment to spare. Tuareg children learn early and fast so where we are going, what we know about what is ahead, and what stories we pass down are taught whenever we move. This village is one of the few places my people have settled down in the last six hundred years. We are an adaptable people."
Which you could hear the pride in his voice as he said it. Moving as nomads from the first invasion of the Romans more then two thousand years ago, most of the tribes still traveled that way from location to location, making them safer then most would think in the vast desert. "The formation of countries around the desert claiming us as their property has changed the way we protect our families." She lay against him, something he felt fit very well between them as the bench moved back and forth slowly, gently. "We have about thirty letters compared to English being twenty six, but we also use French a lot since it's the predominant language between peoples of the continent."
Kissing the top of her head he whispered "It would be bliss to teach you as it would mean more time spent with you, but if you want a teacher while we are here one of my sisters would probably be proud to give you a start while you are here." There were a slight pause as his eyes ran around the room a moment. "Actually that's a good idea. I have searched, but it's more with my natural assumptions about magic and his were more your culture. You will probably hit upon which places or things to search before I would really. What magic things are there in your family's house for instance? Where would you look?"

Calla didn’t think that Muk was wrapped around her fingers. They respected each other and she would do anything for him the same way he would do anything for her. She was lucky to have found him at her age. She knew that her sisters didn’t have the same luck as she had and wished them just as much. They all deserved to have a great companion by their sides to grow old together with. She smiled sweetly at Muk as he spoke and nodded. “I want you to be happy too, Muk.” She replied to him honestly. She was happy that the people from his clan accepted her and Senna and had a bit of a prayer for her father to do the same with Muk. How could he not like him?
“I see, do your people like it to be established like this if you are usually nomads?” She did believe they were happy with their way of living but you never knew. Maybe they would enjoy a bit of adventure. She wouldn’t mind to see them wandering around the desert but it would make it complicated if they were working on greenhouses that would work, even in places with less rain. Luckily, there were spells that allowed them to have water.
French, she would have to consider learning it too if she wanted to understand what they were saying. “That’s fascinating.” She said to him. She was happy to know that he was willing to teach her more about his people too. She blushed a little at Muk’s sweet gesture but soon it was chased away with excitement as he suggested she could spend time with one of his sister. “That would be wonderful.” She then paused as he questioned her. “Usually we store what’s important in our magical chests but I don’t know if your family would have any. We have a pensieve and a bunch of other items that helps in the daily life.” She said to Muk. They were a well known family amongst purebloods and her father was a member of the Wizengamot and if they had any precious item he would have probably held it at Gringotts.
