The art of potion brewing was essential in Raphael's work. Antidotes needed to be at hand's reach at all times if they wanted to properly heal people. Still, it had to be the part of his job Raphael liked the least. Whenever he entered the room, he was reminded how bad it was to have a sensitive nose in that line of work. Some could find it funny that he would wear a mask to minimize the effects of the smoke and smell but it was still the best way for him to do this part of his job efficiently. That and having interns, but antidotes needed to be done perfectly and a certain level of supervision was required, to prevent any mishaps. There were so many bezoars they could get in case nothing else worked and this was no miracle treatment either.
Elizabeth proved to be competent though and he left her for most part of the time she was in the room. There were other healers anyway, if she needed anything, she could still ask their help should he not have returned in the meantime. He couldn't spend all day here and neglect the people who needed their care after all. He usually had her practice making antidotes when there weren't too many people but an emergency could arise at any moment and it was why he left her when he had been called out for assistance elsewhere.
"No problem when I was away?" he asked as he returned to LIZZIE BAXTER . He did hear some of the healers also present conversing as he entered. He didn't pick the beginning of the conversation but he managed to grasp the fact they were talking of Annika and how the papers reported her working here and how that was not professional to have people coming in just to see their welcoming witch. "Everyone needs to work, including her. She would have this trouble no matter where she'd be, what is she supposed to do then? You should support her instead of throwing her out again," he said. Raphael always tried not to sound judgemental when talking to people, even when he disagreed with what they were saying, but there was still something in his tone hinting that he demanded them both to shut up about this and stop treating their colleague that way.
He sighed as it did annoy him to hear them talk this way. He had been trying to reassure Annika that no one would treat her like this, that she was one of them now, yet here they were and even if he didn't know what else they might have said about the young woman, the fact they felt the news was a bother to them more so than Annika was not to please him. He really hoped that, amongst the things they had been saying before he joined in, they did not imply she could have called them herself. He tried to ignore all of this and focus on his work instead, before losing his temper. He looked at his intern and the potion brewing in the cauldron in front of her. "At what step are you now?"
