Now, to make it clear, it wasn't as though Raphael meant to go to the reception of the hospital. Especially not with a potted flower in his hands. Well, alright, maybe he did go to the reception on his own volition, but the plant was not his. He arrived at the entrance to see Annika. "You think you've got some place for this little baby here?" he asked as he placed the pot on the counter. The flowers were pretty, in a star shape and in shades of light purle and fuschia, in nice contrast with the dark shade of the leaves. The pot was wrapped up in a paper that was tied with a black bow.
"I'm not buying you flowers before you ask," he quickly added as his gaze locked into ANNIKA BENNETT 's eyes. "Someone offered this plant to a patient on my floor. They decided not to leave with it," he explained. He looked at the plant. It was a pretty one, a shame that they didn't want it then. But mayeb they already had too many, or not enough space. Or they just didn't know how to handle plants. Raphael went back to Annika. "We can't keep it on our floor, so I thought it could brighten the entrance a bit. You're doing a fine job at that, but maybe for those who aren't warmed up by your smile." Okay, now he was flirting. He was barely even conscious of it too. It was almost just a way of making her smile herself and brighten her day as well. He knew things weren't all that easy for her lately but that she was doing her best right now. He might as well come over and cheer her up a bit, so that she would feel her day was not all bad after all. "Or it can keep you company. Sure won't argue with you, whatever you say."

Annika had just finished talking to a patient who walked in, directing them where they should be heading to when Raphael arrived with a pot of flower. It had her to be curious. She would still get unwanted attention from her fellow workers. Some openly told her they disliked it because it drew some attention from the news reporters but it calmed down and she was starting to feel more comfortable. She was allowed to work too, and it took her a lot to want to go back to the magical world. She often thought she should have stayed in with the muggles instead but there were days where she enjoyed seeing former friends and she still wanted to be there for Chris no matter what he had her through. She couldn’t just deny him in the end. She nodded at him, showing a spot where he could put the vase. “It will be a change of decor for sure.” She said and then listened to his explanations.
“You can bring me the flowers if you have any more, it would make it more welcoming.” She said. After all, people rarely came to the hospital for good news, flowers would cheer them up somehow, right? She was a bit surprised however when he was flirting with her because she didn’t think she was ready to be back in a relationship after the effect her last one did. Alright, it might have been faked but it still almost destroyed her completely.
She wondered if he would be the only one to do that, but he was right, they wouldn’t argue with her in the end. “They won’t want to report me to the news either unless you plugged in a microphone in it to spy on me.” She added bluntly.

As Annika pointed to a spot, Raphael placed the pot them. He was on the other side of the counter, leaving that piece of wood separate them. Raphael tried to keep this kind of boundary between them, to keep her at ease. Funny, considering one of their first encounter was litterally to go camping together. But at work, he tried to remain professional, even though he sounded like flirting with her right now.
He nodded at her words. "My thoughts exactly. I figured it would look better around here, and at least people can see it, otherwise it would decorate a head of department's office." Not that it shouldn't, but it would look better there and more people could enjoy it. Then again, had anyone else from his department taken the flower before he did, he certainly wouldn't have stolen it back to bring it here.
He startled though at her next word. He frowned for a second, surprised she talked of microphones, then remembered she was a muggle-born. Of course she would know of those. "I don't think a whole lot of people here would know of those. Not sure they would work either." A lot of muggle technology somehow no longer worked in wizard-only areas. Unless they had some magical spying item, he doubted there would be any in there. "I can assure you I didn't plant one in," he added, although with a smile because he doubted she would believe he did. He showed no sign whatsoever of that in the past, and he probably heard enough stuff to have an article or two written about her if he wanted. But he protected her instead and he hoped she was aware of that.

Annika looked at the flowers that Raphael brought to her. It was a pretty bouquet for sure and while she would have jumped to the conclusion he was trying to flirt with her by offering her flowers, he made it clear that he wasn’t only to tell her that she had a pretty smile. She preferred not to think much about it though since he proved to her that he wasn’t flirting with her and wanted to be her friend. She accepted to give him that much space, not ready to jump back into a relationship with anyone after the heartbreak she went through with Chris. No matter how much she tried to tell herself that it was wrong, she couldn’t help but fall for him.
“It wouldn’t be a bad thing either but not as many people would see these.” She conceded. She knew that some might want to keep them for their own personal use and it wasn’t like they were to blame when doing so. What was the harm when nobody was expecting to have the bouquet back?
While she tried to joke about the microphone, she didn’t expect it to startle him. She was a muggle-born so that was to expect, no? “That’s good then, I am more than happy to keep the bouquet here. It’s better than a blank space.” She agreed.

It was a shame that someone received a plant only to leave it here. It was a hospital, not a garbage disposal. What were they supposed to do with it? They could ask people around if they were interested in a plant. It turned out Raphael was the first to get it and had an idea as to waht to do with it. Funny enough, Raphael may love nature and big spaces but he didn't have a lot of plants at home. Then again, he would probably have to turn his house into a forest to really like it, and considering how little time he could spend in there maybe it was best not to have a lot of plants.
Annika could have turned it down, but she also could decide it was not her responsibility and not care for it as it would decorate the front desk. She could give it to someone else if she wanted. The first thought that popped in Raphael's mind though was to bring it here. He nodded as she agreed to it also.
He quickly relaxed, if she surprised him earlier with her comment. "I suppose they are limiting how much you can customize the place to your taste," he said. Unless you had an office, he supposed it would be hard to decorate a space to fit your taste, since you have to share it with others.

Annika was aware that she was the source of various gossips at the Hospital. It annoyed her, she wished they would only see someone who was working hard and not see her as Annika Bennett. There might be some patients who recognized her and she tried to talk it down whenever they asked her about Chris. She sure preferred that over those who judged her for what she had done. She still didn’t understand why they were doing that to her while Chris was at fault there, wasn’t he the one who was lying to everyone? She wasn’t. Well, maybe she had a bit to support him but she did that for the sake of friendship and it drowned her.
The bouquet of flowers was a nice addition to her desk. It’s not like she took the time to decorate her place with pictures or personal items. She would rather not to, even less when the things she could bring would only remind her of the past. Besides, she didn’t want to bring in muggle items either as they would raise questions from her peers she would rather not answer. The war might be over but she still felt that some were judging her for being a muggle-born. She didn’t think it made her less of a witch though.
She shrugged at his comment. “I never asked but I’d suppose the same.” She said. Besides, she would rather keep it to a minimum as she was still in her probation period.

It would be a lot eaier for Annika if she didn't have to work an ordinary job, but not everyone could live an idle life. And she was not married to be a housewife. She needed to work, especially if she no longer had money from Chris. Well, he assumed she no longer lived off of the man, now that things were out with him. She also said how she wanted to live by herself, that implied being financially independent.
He thought she should be able to decorate, if only a little. Some plant, or a portrait. Or just a painting of something, to keep her hanging on throughout her day. He doubted she was interested in reading the Witch Weekly much, with what they wrote about her in the past. "Well, if they say anything, you can tell I'm the one who brought it from my department," he said, giving her a smile he hoped looked comforting.
He had q uick look around and seeing how there was no one waiting to come and talk to her, he relaxed. They could chat a bit without it disturbing their work. "Were you able to find a place yet?" She did tell him how she wanted to move out but he never talked to her afterwards to know.

Annika didn’t mind having the job she had. She liked it. What she disliked was the fact that people came to see her because she used to be a public figure. What did people not notice in the word used? She wasn’t anymore and wished to be respected on the matter. She wanted privacy and to be able to handle life better than she had the past years. She would have to do it little by little too as she was aware that she needed time.
She nodded as he insisted she told them that it came from Raphael if she had questions. She didn’t know who would, quite honestly. She was aware that some of the healers gave her unwanted attention but she tried not to care too much about them. “So you’re saying I can throw you under the bus, that’s quite a sacrifice.” She added, teasing him a little. She didn’t make fun of the fact that he cared for her. She started to understand that much from him.
She looked at him for a few moments as he questioned her and she nodded. “Yes, I am living in an apartment now.” She said, omitting on purpose to say that it belonged to Chris’ boyfriend. He too had privacy that needed to be respected.

She teased him as he said she could blame him if anyone didn't like the plant on her desk. He chuckled at this. "It is not too high a price if I'm the one who put you through this," he assured. He almost said that he was always ready to do everything, but that was generally for a patient and he didn't want her to think of herself as his patient or one who needed that kind of help from others. He would defend colleagues though, and maybe he should have voiced it with those words, but he also told her that she could view him as a friend. That started to be a lot of labels and he wasn't sure which one would make her more comfortable to use. "The most appropriate place for a plant I'd say is the reception though." He thought it might just get in the way otherwise. And it didn't have any medicinal properties to salvage it to make potions.
She told him she found an apartment. He smiled at this, happy for her. It would do her good to have her own space. It would allow her to distance herself from Chris and be less associated to him. She will be able to find herself that way. "Congratulations. Make it a gift to your newly found independence then," he joked, referring to the plant. It might be good to find something a bit more personal, that she could take home, for that. He'll have to think about it.

Annika smiled at Raph being more at ease around him. She accepted him as a friend and gave him the credit of not thinking of her as a patient. She did blame him for this at first, thinking that he only was seeing her because of that but she saw that she could trust him, as a friend. He might be someone better to hang around with especially considering her first social circle. “Then we’re settled on the matter.” She decided as she glanced back at the bouquet. It was a nice one and more people would be able to view it here, she had to give him that. “Indeed, unless it’s one of the added tasks that they give me.” She said, referring to taking care of said plants. Bouquets weren’t too high maintenance though so she was good with it. She was okay with having plants around though.
Hopefully, the news would get the message too, that she was living away from Chris and that they should leave her alone too. “That works.” She said with a smile as he shared his happiness for her as she had found a place to live in.

Raphael shrugged off the responsibility. "It's not too time-consuming. A quick water spell and you could be good. Or a levitation one if you have a water can nearby." Being a wizard sure had its perks. It made daily chores a lot easier. Then again, he had to do those manually when he was a child, at home, since half of his family was muggle, so he didn't see it as punishment as much as other wizards might.
A more personal gift would be better, but Raphael had no idea she had moved already. "It's a good thing though, right? You will be in charge of your life. The change is not too drastic for you, is it?" Raphael had no idea the type of home Christopher lived in, and Annika by association, but he supposed it would have been something more expensive than she could afford by herself. He didn't know the quidditch player enough to tell what his taste was like, so he could only make assumptions. Ultimately though, he didn't care for Chris. His focus was on Annika and how well she was settling in her new place, and her new life.

Annika smiled and nodded, it’s not like it was too much of a big deal indeed she just kept forgetting that she was a wizard sometimes. Being here though reminded her that she was. Having her wand taken away during the year of the war did not help but she was starting to use her wand more often and the spells she had learned to keep in touch with magic. Not to add that having this job as the welcoming witch was also a simple way for her to keep her grounded there. She just wished that the people who recognized her would stop judging her when they did and talking of Chris. She wasn’t there for the gossips after all; she was there to do her job.
She smiled at him. “Yeah, it is for the better, and no as I’m temporarily living in a friend’s place, we sort of switched in a way.” She said with a light shrug so it wasn’t too much of a shock until she found her own place.

Raphael could hardly blame her for forgetting sometimes that she could do magic. He had lived in a world with both, magic and no magic. There was a connection you built by doing things yourself, especially when interacting with a person, an animal or a plant. But, when you were in a hurry, nothing better than a quick spell. She only had to be careful not to let anyone else who shouldn't see her do that.
She had talked a bit about her family and background but Raphael didn't know where she stood regarding magic and their world. He assumed she had been amongst those who suffered. Half-blood wasn't as good a pure, but Raphael was useful as a healer and posed no threat. The war had been bad only because of the amount of people they had to treat and the tension they could all feel. They weren't all like Edwin, who acted as though it was nothing. His boss was worried about her lover, he was being questioned about his friend and yet somehow he looked unphased. It was a good thing Edwin was on their side, because Raphael sometimes wondered if he wasn't cut out to be a death eater. No, he was certain Edwin would have found them stupid too, if not stupider.
A friend's place. Raphael found himself hesitating a second, wondering what kind of friend, but he pushed the thought away. He shouldn't pry like this and was not allowed to ask something like that. She mentioned a switch. Raphael saw it like her friend still having a few months of rent and didn't want to pay for leaving when they were moving with someone else so they allowed her to stay. "That is nice. It's a soft transition. Next would be a place of your own, I suppose, after you've found your footing a little better?" She had a lot of changes, if she moved and got a new job. Maybe that was a transition for the best. Again, he felt like he didn't have the right to question her about it.

Annika had indeed suffered in the past and didn’t completely trust the wizards but she was determined to get a hold onto her life and hoped that it would be kinder with her too. She too wanted to have a life, and be able to love again sometime. She wanted to be able to talk back to Chris and be the friends that they used to be in the past and even have double dates with him and Alex if they could! She wanted things to go back to normal but still had a few trust issues. Luckily, time was passing by and helping her case as people were slowly forgetting about her past. She just wished that the news would stop bothering her and she would be able to live her life in an incognito way and have her private life for herself.
She didn’t want to share too much detail with who she was staying at right now. While she was getting along better with Raphael, she was still a bit awkward around him. Wondering about what his true intentions with her were. She didn’t find him unattractive, quite the contrary, but the mess that her fake relationship had caused in her head made her doubt and step back whenever there was a possibility of things going further.
She nodded, glad that he didn’t inquire much about the matter. “Indeed, when I have enough funds for it, I’ll see what I need to look for too.” She wasn’t sure if she wanted a flat, an apartment, or a house but she had time to think it through.

She nodded to him, but as she talekd, he sensed some trouble coming back to her. He could see it in her eyes, the thoughts and perhaps some doubt. Who was the say. She did have big doe eyes that seemed very expressive to him. "If you can take the time, I suggest you do so. It's not just about adapting to this new lifestyle. London has many parts to it, some far less affordable than others. If you have the opportunity to look for what you really want and need, do that. Besides, even if you live outside of the city, there are magical ways to get here, so it's not like you should let proximity be an important factor in here." He didn't know how long she could stay at the place she currently lived but he was hoping she was not putting too much pressure on herself to find a place. It was important, but it was also something she needed to carefully think throught, or else she might end up with the first offer she finds, and might pay far more than she should too.
She also had to deal with this new job. She may not be in the spotlight, but she was the first face people would see while coming in, likely talking too as well. Raphael hoped she didn,t feel too much pressure. Then again, he heard no one complaining she was not doing her job right. He heard other stuff, but he was putting an end to those gossips as often as he could. "You can tell me when you find a place. I promise I'll give you a gift better than some patient's flowers," he joked, in reference to the ones he brought her this time. Then again, she didn't have to say. But he was not asking for an invitation. He wanted her to feel welcomed here and know that she had friends.
