Astraglomancy (dice casting divination) is an unusual skill, but certainly his family has had many in it's lines. Before him the next divinationist is his mother (whose side he gets the talent from) who is a Lithomanist (divination by stones) and as he grew up he had many chances to observe and watch her using her talents daily. While his sister did not get the talent, his mother has taught them both about divination talents over the years and when he began to develop a hankering for dice, he went straight to the divination books then the Professor with the proof of what he thought was happening! His own preference for these unusual dice is just the individual character of his own talent and what 'fits' and works best for him. In his use of it he treats it less important then his mother did (she checked the stones more then thirty or forty times a day for all manner of small daily details), but more as for serious decisions and in his study of the dark magic items brought to him by the Ministry for evaluation.
It would be honest to say he doesn't like to push his luck or karma on getting too much advance information.
Sample:
Cameron had thick leather gloves on and turned the silver circlet around, looking at the reflections carefully from the side of his eyes instead of directly on. He could tell there was something, but he couldn't tell where it was centered so much. Reaching to the pouch on his belt, he reached in and felt around and ended up pulling out a thirty sided, his most sensitive die. Rolling it between the fingers of his right hand as he thought about the possibilities in such a device, he hesitated with it in the crux between thumb and index finger. As his thumb crooked over it he whispered softly "It's based somewhere, focused, embedded. There is a point of origin in everything, the root, the beginning point and that's what I need to start with." A flicker of a glance over the waiting die as if it was listening to him intently like some sort of pet. He grinned slyly then winked at it as if inanimate items could speak.
He knew some of them could.
"Find it for me, give me a place to start on. I'm depending on you to make it clear where the potential is." Now his hand closed around it, the die rolling around his palm for a second before he closed his other hand over it and did a real warm up, focusing on the die as it ran around inside at his command. Three times to the right, twice around in a circle and then he tossed it in the air slightly, letting it come down into the circle with a slight bounce. The die rolled forward slightly, then suddenly veered right rolling near the back left ear rest and Cameron' smile was quick. "Ah! So it feeds directly into the brain, clever spot, no wonder I had some issues there."[/url] He repeated the process and got a similar spot, a bit closer to the end and he noted that, polishing the dice and praising it before he put it away to begin work on the final part.
