Lucas had still not fully realised what was happening to him. Here he was, at Hogwarts, the school he had wished to be in for so long. Ever since he learned that those kids he saw in the village from time to time came from here, in fact. And now he was with them. The novelty of it still made his head spin.
The place was so big. He had never seen a place this big before and no matter what he heard from his parents and other students, he did not prepare himself for this. Like every other first years, he looked at the place being both amazed and intimidated. The sorting ceremony had been intimidating too. His last name being Clark, he knew even before the students were called that he’d be among the first ones. Being the first called out was always so much more intimidating. It didn’t matter that they were told how things would proceed, you couldn’t help but to fear to mess it up. If that was not enough, you had to walk in front of everyone and then face up the rest of the students, sitting at their house table, and try not to shake too much as you were told which one you had to join.
As he sat down at the Ravenclaw table, he reminded how relieved he had been to hear the sorting hat calling out this particular house. It was his parents’ as well as Faolan’s. It meant a lot to him to be in the same house to pretty much the only other kid he knew here. He knew he could look out for him in their common room if there was anything.
He was still pretty nervous. He couldn’t eat anything. Right after that first evening, they were thrown one lesson after the other. He had yet found his bearings and it was all a little overwhelming for him. This was why he could barely eat the meal before him, all while he thought that he’d normally dig in with appetite. He also thought that he would have to write to his parents. Were they told by the school which house he was sorted into? He didn't even know what to write to them. All of these thoughts made him play with his food rather than eat it. Had his mother been there, she would have told him to stop before asking him what was going on. But he had no one like that here, so he kept playing mindlessly with his food.
