Heather had to agree with Thomas there; they needed to fix their family and get a normal life back as much as possible. She wanted Annie to have what was best in life and it meant having family reunions as they meant a lot and what was made a childhood great too. She didn’t want her baby girl to live through drama her whole life; she needed a good one, for all they went through. Hopefully, her family would like the idea too and would agree to have reunions with Thomas’ family as she didn’t see herself with anyone else. She wanted to get to know his family better and it seemed like she was getting along well with his mother so far, all for the better she thought.
She nodded to him. “Indeed, Annie needs to know both worlds exist.” She said. She was granted that and she thought that it would lead their girl to have an open mind on the matter. She didn’t want to see the future with another dark lord. Having one was enough to deal with and now that it was behind them, they could at last look ahead.
He told her that they didn’t know a lot about her condition. “I won’t be ashamed to tell them but not on the first meeting, I don’t want it to define me. I’d prefer them to have an opinion on me that isn’t only about that.” She said.

That year of hiding, away from everyone, not even knowing whether they were still alive or not, had put certain thing sin perspective for Thomas. Sure, he was still scared of the werewolf in him, of the harm he could inflict while turned during full moons, and the risk of giving this part of him to any kid he may have, but he also valued those close to him even more for staying around. It made him want to reunite with those he lost contact with, mainly his family. He did it on purpose before, because he was a werewolf and a wizard and they were none of that, but it no longer matter. He was also a father now and he felt a greater responsability. He didn't want Annie to push away a part of her family because they were not like who she was.
Heather understood it. Did she also grew in that sense during that terrible year of war and chaos or did she always feel that way? Either way, he felt comforted in his idea that he was doing the right thing here. It also assured him that he made the right choice of partner with Heather.
Maybe it was because she admitted not feeling comfortable laying out all of her flaws to his parents out front that he hesitated. As he told her, he said nothing of her condition. They might have picked some of her 'habits' her OCD caused her to do, but he did not give any detail on the matter. "I meant to do that during dinner with my parents, but I'm starting to think it would just put you on the spot and make you uncomfortable," he began to explain. He had grabbed her hands and brought her close to the bed so she would sit on it. He then went to his bag and rummaged through it until he could find a small box. "I had another reason for coming here," he admitted, fidgeting with the box. She might have an idea what was in it, only by the size of it. If not, the fact he kneeled before her, figuring it was the right way to do it, might do the trick. Despite him being certain of her answer, he was still nervous. "I should have done this a long time ago. I have known for a very long time now that there is no one else I would like to spend the rest of my life with. And I was hoping, while coming here, to introduce you to my parents as my fiancée." As he said that, he opened the box to reveal the ring. He took a deep breath. He didn't know if it was the right setting. It probably wasn't. It might not be as romantic as it should have been. But it ended up to be how he proposed to her. In a way, none of what they would have wished to do happened the intended way, so why not this as well?

Heather was supportive of Thomas’ choices. While she had had a hard time when he went to hiding and even thought that he had died, she understood what his fears were. She tried to reassure him various times, that the werewolf wasn’t typically a gene that would pass on generations from what they studied but she also worried at first. They weren’t 100% sure of it after all no matter what the researchers had concluded so far. They were both relieved now that Annie was fine and she was grateful that they were able to reunite again with both his family and hers. She wanted Annie to have a good childhood and meet all the members of their families if she could. She wasn’t someone who denied muggle borns even though she came from a pureblood family. Hers was one rare one who was open-minded about it all and she was certain that her parents would get along well with his family despite their differences.
She was also lucky and thankful that Thomas didn’t mention her OCD to his family yet. She would tell them if they questioned her on the matter but they were kind enough to accept her the way she was and she was happy to spend time with them. She even thought of offering a painting she would do during the vacation time for his mother. She could do what she wanted with it, she wouldn’t be offended by it. She even had a small idea merging that would fit well in the living area if she wanted to expose something there. She looked at Thomas curiously however when he said he wanted to do something to her during dinner. “What is it?” She asked him, the voice tone showing that she started wondering what it was. She quickly picked up on what he wanted to do with the box and a smile formed onto her lips as she let him build up his courage to pop the question she knew she would say yes to, without hesitation when she sat down on the bed next to him.
She felt her eyes watering up and nodded before saying. “Of course!” She said before wrapping her arms around his neck and hugging him.

Was it old school and perhaps a little cheesy to do this like that? It was not romantic, he was aware of that. Somehow, all of the romantic ways to propose, when thought, felt silly. That was the kind of thing that worked on the spot but would have a lot of people think it was corny if they were to look at it. Thomas realised the proposal in itself should be more private. He thought at first it was a good thing to ask with his parents around, but as he talked with Heather right now, he felt like it would be better if they were just the two of them. He didn't think she would say no. She took him back after the war, when he finally heard it was over and returned. She let him in, allowed him to see their daughters, came here with him to meet his parents. She was clearly willing to be with him. But she might feel unnecessary pressure if forced to say yes in front of his parents. And, in the end, she too had her issues that needed to be compromised with.
He did feel a bit silly to kneel like this, in his old room they shared for now, Annie sleeping next to them. But wasnt putting a knee on the ground the very least he could do? The ring was not something magnificent either. He didn't have the money to buy big diamond rings and he was not sure it would suit her, or both of them for that matter. It was a lot simpler but he hoped she would like it. Again, he didn't think she would reject him just because he didn't spend a fortune on a rock, but he still wanted her to not be disappointed.
He reaised how tense he was despite all that certainty when she hugged him and he finally felt himself relax. He knew, and yet.. As though there could have been a chance, once that he should not have underestimated, she would say no. He hugged her back, laughing slightly, mostly as the pressure caught up in his chest was released. "To be honest," he began to say, still holding her. He waited a moment to continue, as he wanted to keep that embrace. But to talk to her, he preferred to look at her in the eyes so when he was ready to speak, he pulled back. "I wanted to propose before. Before the war, I mean. But with everything that happened, and the danger I could have put you in... It felt too cruel to propose when I had to go into hiding. I was not even sure I could come back." After Dumbledore died, so many things happened. His cafe was burned and he was at risk, not only because he helped Dumbledore and the Order, but also for being a werewolf and a muggle-born. He did was he thought he had to do back then. If he regretted certain things, he couldn't go back, just try and make amends for them. He was glad things worked in the end. So many lost their lives, he managed to get out of this in not too bad of a situation.

Heather couldn’t describe just how happy she was that he proposed to her. There was a time when she wondered if she was going to be married to him, before the war, but with all they went through, the thought went out of her head for a reasonable amount of time, and with Annie being there, she didn’t stop thinking of the matter quite often either. She was so touched that he even knelt for her and thought it was perfect the way it was. She didn’t want a big event and savored every second of it. The place was perfect, the moment was excellent and she wouldn’t want it any other way. She thought that the ring was pretty and was content with it. She didn’t have any expectations of the jewel, she just sometimes daydreamed of how it would happen but that was all.
She brushed her tears away when most of the emotion was out as he hugged her back. They would finally be the family she always wanted. It was truly heartwarming and she wanted to be with him like this forever. She nodded when he admitted to her that he didn’t want to propose when the war started happening. “I get that, and I always wondered if you would come back or not. Luckily, my job kept me busy enough not to worry too much.” She said, as she thought of those memories. They didn’t want memories, of course, but they were what made them who they were today. They both grew in different ways and while the time they parted could’ve pulled them away from each other, they were still able to be together as a couple and didn’t change too much to the point of not wanting to be together.
“I am truly happy we are here and together.” She said softly as she pulled back, and kept their embrace only to look at him. “Do you want to share the news with your parents?” She asked wondering if he wanted to tell them now or when they would have their next meal together.
